Video: Israel Adesanya Reacts Passionately To Compatriot Sodiq Yusuff's UFC Main Event Loss To Edson Barboza
Jasmin Frank-USA TODAY Sports

At this past weekend's UFC Fight Night, ranked featherweight contenders Sodiq Yusuff and Edson Barboza put on one of the most memorable main events of the year to date.

The pair went to war inside the Apex facility in Las Vegas, battling in a competitive and back-and-forth contest across five rounds. While it marked Yusuff's first experience in the headline spotlight, his veteran opponent made the walk for his fourth.

Although the Nigerian-American's first appearance on a UFC poster was thrilling for fans and fighters alike, it ultimately wasn't a victorious one for Yusuff himself, and that's despite a strong start and dominant first round.

For much of the opening frame, "Super Sodiq" looked close to finding a finish. But after letting Barboza survive the round, the Brazilian emerged for the second recovered and ready to deliver an impressive comeback.

Paying close attention to the matchup was a notable compatriot of Yusuff's, who captured his reactions to the entertaining main event.

Adesanya Reacts To Barboza's Comeback Win Over Yusuff

During a video recently uploaded to his YouTube channel, former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya can be seen giving his thoughts on the major events that went down this past Saturday night.

That included the October 14 UFC Fight Night, which saw a fellow Lagos, Nigeria-born fighter in the biggest spot of his career to date. With the pair's shared heritage, "The Last Stylebender" was passionately rooting for "Super Sodiq" as the featherweight contender lit up Barboza in the first round.

"Let's go... He's close! He's close! Oh! Sodiq, 'Super' Sodiq! He got him," Adesanya exclaimed. "'Super' Sodiq! Oh my God! Guillotine, get his neck.... Go to the body, take your time, he's hurt. Oh, he hits hard, bro! ... Come on, mix it up. If he goes to the body it will help, even the kicks. But the body, don't head hunt, please! It's good but I just don't want you to clinch... Body shot, Sodiq, it will open it up, I promise you!"

After witnessing a monumental comeback from Barboza across rounds two, three, four, and five, Adesanya gave the Brazilian vet his props while assessing where Yusuff went wrong.

"Good for them," Adesanya said whilst watching Barboza's family celebrate. "F*ck, man. It was a good fight, good fight. Sodiq started strong, but Barboza finished stronger. He kept on building up. I think the takedowns at the end sealed it. But good body work, good jab, all that. Sodiq, in the beginning, did exactly what he should have done."

In the aftermath, Yusuff has vowed to bounce back from his latest setback in a big way. Interestingly, Adesanya finds himself in a similar position to his fellow compatriot.

The Nigerian-New Zealander was unseated from the middleweight throne last month in Sydney, Australia, where Sean Strickland completed a once-unlikely rise to the throne.

While Adesanya is planning to take a hiatus from the sport following an incredibly active period, he's promised to return with a splash down the line — a feat that Yusuff will now also be targeting.
