Matt DiBenedetto does not have 2024 ride secured after sponsorship fallout
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Just when fans thought Matt DiBenedetto had his 2024 NASCAR plans secured, things have fallen apart. That’s according to Matty D himself. After his exit from Rackley WAR at the end of the last Truck Series season, DiBenedetto’s future has been up in the air.

There are a lot of folks who follow the sport who would expect Matt DiBenedetto to get into some kind of ride for 2024. Honestly, I’m shocked he isn’t getting a deal secured at this point. However, it’s the nature of the business.

By the sound of it, there was sponsorship lined up to put DiBenedetto into a car or truck. For one reason or another Matt D and his side had to “pull the plug” on the deal.

“What’s up guys?” DiBendetto said in a video posted to social media. “Just finished up my health stuff, getting ready for 2024, here at the race track and just wanted to give you guys a delayed update. I appreciate your guys’ patience, it’s been a crazy few weeks. And for those of you who were not patient and were stating to get a little hostile with us, I was not leaving you guys in the dark and I’d appreciate some grace, please. But either way, it’s all good. It’s been a crazy few weeks.

“But we had a sponsor deal that we had to decide to pull the plug on and move forward from. So, unfortunate circumstances, but hey it’s all good. Everything will work out exactly how it’s supposed to.”

Matt DiBenedetto went on to say fans shouldn’t feel bad for him. He’s going to look for “part-time” opportunities. It sounds like 2024 will be a limited run for DiBenedetto in NASCAR.

Matt DiBenedetto without 2024 ride, for now

It is a wonder how a driver who took Wood Brothers Racing to the playoffs in the Cup Series can’t get a ride in any series now. Of course, sponsorship and personal relationships play a massive role in motorsports. But still, he’s a proven driver in NASCAR.

No, Matt DiBenedetto isn’t the young guy with untapped potential that he was ten or even six years ago. Everyone knows what he is, more or less. But that’s not a bad thing. He’s a driver that will take your equipment and race it better than it deserves. Honestly!

Without a good sponsorship deal lined up, a ride just isn’t going to materialize for DiBenedetto. Fans like him. He can run in the top-10 and top-5 on a regular basis in the Truck Series, maybe even Xfinity if he has the right equipment.

Right now, we are not going to see Matt DiBenedetto on a NASCAR track any time soon. Then again, just as his last sponsorship deal fell out quickly, something can materialize just as fast. We will see what is in store for DiBenedetto.
