Richard Petty, Jimmie Johnson to make appearances at Dover to celebrate Petty Family’s 75th anniversary in NASCAR

Richard Petty and Jimmie Johnson will make multiple appearances at Dover Motor Speedway on Sunday, April 28, ahead of the Würth 400 as part of the yearlong celebration of the Petty Family’s 75th anniversary in NASCAR, the racetrack announced Tuesday.

Legacy Motor Club, co-owned by Johnson, will have its own suite for the race, which will be available to 48 fans. Johnson, Petty and fellow NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Inman will conduct meet and greets with those in the suite.

The suite includes the following:

• Special limited-edition, numbered hat with the Dover Motor Speedway logo
• Pre-Race Track Pass access, including an exclusive viewing area on the frontstretch for pre-race driver introductions.
• Hot, catered lunch and open bar.
• VIP parking outside Turn 4.

Johnson, Petty and Inman are also scheduled to appear at the 46-foot Monster Monument at Victory Plaza.

“Across more than half a century of action, Richard Petty, his crew chief Dale Inman and Jimmie Johnson are some of the Monster Mile’s top performers,” said Mike Tatoian, Dover Motor Speedway’s president and general manager. “We are thrilled that these racing legends will be at Dover this spring and hope our fans take advantage of these unique opportunities to see these Hall of Famers and honor the Petty family’s NASCAR legacy.”

Jimmie Johnson, Richard Petty headline weekend at Dover

Petty, the seven-time Cup Series champion, won the inaugural Cup Series race at Dover in 1969. The 86-year-old raced his way to victory lane seven times at Dover, his last victory coming in 1984.

“It’s always special to be recognized and this does take it to the very top,” Petty said. “This is really for the fans to enjoy something unique to our family, our history, and our contributions to the tracks and NASCAR. It took a lot of people, time, and effort to make this happen and our family is honored by that.”

Johnson, meanwhile, is an 11-time winner at Dover. His 83rd and final Cup Series win came at the “Monster Mile” in 2017. Johnson will pilot the No. 84 Toyota at Dover, his first start at the racetrack since 2020.
