Watch: 'Should have ran Mayer into the wall'- Ryan Sieg laments 0.002s Texas Xfinity race lost to Sam Mayer
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Texas had one of the most thrilling and close race finishes of all time. RSS Racing driver Ryan Sieg and JR Motorsports driver Sam Mayer were locked in for a brilliant battle for the win in the last few laps. Mayer came out of the top and won the race by just 0.002s.

Following the photo finish, Ryan Sieg spoke about his disappointing end to the race. Sieg jokingly said how he should’ve run Sam Mayer into the wall after missing his first possible Xfinity Series win even after 342 starts.

I was doing like I do, I should have ran [Mayer] into the wall harder, I guess. Tried to win the race…it sucks. We ran good, we got more to gain. We'll keep gaining on it and we'll be with the Chevrolets, the Toyotas…we're close. Ryan Sieg told Frontstrech.

The driver seemed to be disappointed by the result because the win was just a fraction away. Besides this, the last lap of the race was definitely worth the watch for fans of both drivers, as both of them showcased brilliant wheel-to-wheel-racing battles and one of the most iconic Xfinity Series finishes of all time.

Sam Mayer shares an insight into ‘absolutely unreal’ win in Texas

JR Motorsports driver Sam Mayer has had a pretty hit-or-miss season during this year’s Xfinity Calendar. The No.1 Chevrolet Camaro driver’s win during the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 in Texas was one of his best wins in the Xfinity Series. After the race, the driver added how his win was ‘absolutely unreal.’

That‘s absolutely unreal. This team, the amount of adversity we‘ve had to fight this entire year so far and to come to a mile-and-a-half that I want to say I‘m good at, but it took a lot. It took every ounce of me for me to do that today. Sam Mayer said.

The 20-year-old started in P10 ahead of the race and won it because of his team’s brilliant strategy and race execution. Mayer was proud of his team and after his win will definitely be fired up to continue producing results in the upcoming Xfinity Series races.
