Andre Iguodala Named New Executive Director Of National Basketball Players Association
Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

Andre Iguodala is the executive director of the National Basketball Players Association.

Iguodala, who won four titles with the Golden State Warriors, is replacing Tamika Tremaglio, who is stepping down.

“I am honored to take on this role and serve the players, who are the heart and soul of the NBA,” Andre Iguodala said in a statement. “I’m presented with a unique opportunity to take all that I’ve learned as a player over the course of my 19-year career and apply it to creating an even stronger and more influential union for current and future generations of players. I am thrilled to work alongside our extremely committed Executive Committee to lead the brotherhood through its next stage of advancement and development.”

Iguodala averaged 11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.5 blocks during his NBA career. He played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, Warriors and Miami Heat.

Iguodala made one All-Star team and two All-Defensive teams. The swingman won the 2015 Finals MVP Award.

“It’s just the right time,” Andre Iguodala told NBA reporter Marc J. Spears of Andscape. “Time started to get limited for me and I didn’t want to put anything in the back seat. I didn’t want to have to try to delegate time anymore. Especially with on the court, off the court with family. A lot. You want to play at a high level. But then family is a lot. My son is 16 and then two girls. So, [I’m] looking forward to seeing them grow up in those important years.”

Iguodala has led multiple successful business ventures in his NBA career off the court. With this experience, Iguodala should be well-positioned to have an immediate impact in his new role and work in tandem with the other members of the NBPA council.
