Blake Griffin Considering Retirement
Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

Blake Griffin may retire from the NBA, according to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe. Griffin played for the Boston Celtics last season.

Griffin averaged 4.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists for the Celtics last season while shooting 48.5% from the field, 34.8% from beyond the arc and 65.6% from the free-throw line in 41 games. The Oklahoma product has career averages of 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 765 games with the Los Angeles Clippers, Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets and Celtics.

While he’s no longer a star in the NBA, Griffin can still provide quality minutes as a reserve. It’s going to be fascinating to see where Griffin is playing next season. The six-time All-Star has made over $258 million in his career.

If Griffin doesn’t return to the Celtics and decides to keep playing, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints thinks the veteran can help the Clippers, Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors next season. Griffin’s former team, the Clippers, lost to the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in five games, the Heat lost to the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Finals in five games and the Warriors lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round in six games.

The Celtics are going to look different next season after trading Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies and Grant Williams to the Dallas Mavericks and acquiring Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards this offseason.

Most people around the NBA believe the Celtics will start Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Porzingis and Al Horford next season.
