Boston Celtics: Jrue Holiday Reacts to Massive 4-Year, $135,000,000 Contract Extension
Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Celtics secured Jrue Holiday for the long term on Wednesday. This came in the form of a four-year contract extension for the three-time All-Star amounting to $135 million.

That’s without a doubt a whole lot of money, but it does create a considerable amount of cap room for Boston for next season now that Holiday has declined his $39.4 million player option for 2024-25 for a significantly lower (but more long-term) annual salary.

Boston Celtics News: Jrue Holiday Speaks Out on Contract Extension

Holiday spoke to the press not long after news broke about his massive extension. The veteran was understandably pleased with this significant development as he thanked Bean Town as well as the Celtics organization for all the love and support he and his family have received since Day 1:

“Since I came here and the situation how I got here, it’s only been love,” Holiday said. “The city of Boston, not only they but the organization made it super easy for us to kinda navigate and get through a time that was a bit stressful for us. So just an appreciation. We love the city, we love this organization, the players in it, and what they stand for. Doing our best to get another banner.”

Holiday hasn’t even completed his first season in Boston, but it just feels like he was meant to be a Celtic. He’s had a few memorable stops during his decorated NBA career, but somehow, this union with the Celtics just seems predestined.
