Boston Celtics News: Former Los Angeles Lakers Star Says He’s ‘Jealous’ of the 2023-24 Squad in Honest Admission
Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Michael Cooper has changed his tone about this year’s Boston Celtics after seeing them dominate this regular season. With a 62-17 record, the Boston Celtics have clinched the best overall record in the league with three games to spare.

Before the  2023-24 campaign, Michael Cooper had doubts about the Boston Celtics despite acquiring Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday during the offseason, but during his recent appearance in the Showtime with Michael Cooper Show, the Hall-of-Fame-bound star expressed his confidence about Boston’s title chances.

“I’m a little jealous, but I have some admiration for this Celtics team. Those guys are good, man. Are they gonna win a championship? I’m gonna say no because it always implodes on them,” Cooper said.

“But for some reason, I have a feeling it’s not going to implode this year. The only other team that I think they should fear is Milwaukee, but they are struggling right now,” he added.

What did Michael Cooper say about the Boston Celtics last summer?

The Boston Celtics were one of the busiest teams during the offseason since they revamped their core, resulting in the departures of Marcus Smart, Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams III, and Grant Williams.

The team got Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday in return, but Michael Cooper was not high with the arrival of the former, in particular.

“That guy is always hurt. He is going to play a couple of games, and the games he plays, he looks good in them. But can you get a whole season out of him?” Cooper said about Kristaps Porzingis.

Kristaps Porzingis has played 56 regular-season games this year, averaging 20.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game while shooting 51.8 percent from the field.

Jrue Holiday, on the other hand, has seen his averages drop to 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, but his impact on the Boston Celtics goes beyond the box score.

Furthermore, Michael Cooper also said that the onus is on Joe Mazzulla and his coaching staff  if the Boston Celtics win Banner No. 18 this season.

“Their coaching staff is going to be questioned after this year, so they better getting it down on that end,” said Cooper.
