Saturday, the Celtics signed former Duke Blue Devil guard DJ Steward to a training camp deal, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Chicago native averaged 13 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in his lone season in Durham.
The six-foot-two floor general will compete for Boston's final two-way contract. JD Davison and Jay Scrubb occupy the Celtics' other two-way roster spots.
While the priority is signing the best player possible, two other guards, including Davison, a primary ball handler the C's invested a draft pick and have worked with for over a year now, might steepen the challenge of Steward earning a two-way deal with Boston.
But just as Scrubb proved himself at Summer League, playing himself onto the Celtics' roster, perhaps Steward performs well enough in the preseason to win Boston's training camp battle for its last two-way opening.
