When it comes to the Greatest Of All Time conversation, many have supported LeBron James’ claim to the title. The thing is, Boston Celtics legends Paul Pierce thinks that the Los Angeles Lakers star might have used his GOAT vote on him in a recent poll conducted by The Athletic.

Pierce first entered the league as the Celtics’ 10th pick in the 1998 Draft. Right from the get-go, the 6’7″ forward made an impact for Boston by averaging 16.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.7 steals in the 48 games he played in his rookie season.

Since then, Pierce would evolve as Boston’s primary star and the foundation of their team during the 2000s. But no matter how good he became, his iteration of the Celtics weren’t good enough to reach the Finals or make deep runs in the playoffs.

That all changed when Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen came over for the 2007-08 season to form an All-Star trio with Pierce. Right then and there, the Celtics won a ring against a Kobe Bryant-led Lakers team in 2008. In the process, Pierce and his teammates established themselves as legends of the franchise.

After his 10-year run in Boston, Pierce played out the remainder of his career with the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards, and Los Angeles Clippers. In 2017, the Truth played his final NBA games and retired as one of the best ever to play for the Celtics.

Just recently, a poll was conducted by The Athletic on who the GOAT is among players still active in the NBA. Along with Rudy Gobert being voted as the Most Overrated Player today, Michael Jordan was named the GOAT by these players.

Along with James, Kobe Bryant, Golden State Warrior star Stephen Curry, and Magic Johnson, Pierce was also included in the names tallied. The Celtics legend gives his take in a video posted by Awful Announcing on X:

While Pierce may try to justify his inclusion, the GOAT argument only involves what a player has done during his career in the NBA. Sadly, the Celtics star’s accomplishments doesn’t hold a candle to what Jordan, Bryant, Johnson, Curry, or James has done on the court.

Even if that’s the case, Pierce’s confidence is amusing to see. Nevertheless, it won’t be known anytime soon whether James did vote for him or not.
