Giannis Antetokounmpo breaks silence on Mike Budenholzer firing
Forward Giannis Antetokounmpo Michael McLoone-USA TODAY Sports

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been silent about the firing of head coach Mike Budenholzer. Monday , Budenholzer thanked the team and its players in an emotional farewell. Giannis has now broken his silence and posted a farewell to his head coach.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Thanks Mike Budenholzer

His message was a simple one.

“Thank you for five meaningful years Coach. We accomplished something unbelievable and I’m forever grateful.”

His post was paired with a picture of him and Budensholzer hugging after winning the NBA Finals. The team won a championship under Budenholzer and has been one of the premier organizations in recent years. Giannis recognizes that Budenholzer got them to the promised land. Many good coaches try and fail to win championships. This team under Budenholzer was able to win it all which is certainly an accomplishment.

With That Said, It Was The Right Move

It was time. The message in the locker room was clearly getting stale. Getting bounced in the first round in five games warranted a change. Even though the team won a championship, the window won’t be open forever. Giannis is in his prime and the team is built to win now. A new voice in the locker room might be able to unlock a new level for the team. They should go into next season as one of the favorites and with a new coach, could make up for this season’s disappointment.

There does not seem to be any ill will between Giannis Antetokounmpo and Mike Budenholzer. Everyone seems to recognize that it was time to move on. The Bucks have some decisions to make this offseason including a new head coach. They seem okay to wait and see how the rest of the season shakes out. The job is a desirable one and should have no problems attracting a big-name head coach.
