How tall is he? 10 things to know about Victor Wembanyama

After winning the NBA Draft lottery Tuesday, the San Antonio Spurs earned the right to select French sensation Victor Wembanyama with the first overall pick in the draft on June 22.

As these highlights show, Wemby has a supreme handle and shooting touch. "Ridiculous skill level," a commentator says.

Here are 10 things to know about the 19-year-old:

1. How tall is he?

When entering "Victor Wembanyama height" into Google, 7-foot-2 pops up. But ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Jonathan Givony confirmed he's really 7-5 ... and may still be growing. In this photo next to 7-foot-1 Rudy Gobert, Wembanyama clearly is taller.

2. Other measurements

While he might be a couple of inches taller than Shaquille O'Neal, he practically has the feet of a ballerina compared to the Hall of Famer, who wears a size 22. (Wembanyama has a size 20.5.) Wembanyama also has an eight-foot wingspan, which measuringstuff.com says is the same height as a small elephant or two seven-year-old children. His wingspan is also believed to be longer than any current NBA player.

3. Where did he play in 2022-23?

Wembanyama played in his home country of France in the Betclic Elite Pro A league as a member of the Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92. In 34 games, he's averaged 21.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and three blocks.

4. How can I watch him play?

NBA.com streamed his regular-season games via its app. The regular season is over, but Wembanyama is still playing. The Metropolitans 92 play Cholet in the Betclic Elite quarterfinals Sunday and Tuesday. No word has come from NBA.com about streaming the playoff games, but if not, fans can flock to the league's lnb.tv page to subscribe and watch.

5. The play that left "an NBA executive wishing his team had tanked"

No one ever doubted Wembanyama as the best talent in this draft, but this play from early April cemented his legacy as a generational prospect.

After missing a fadeaway three-point attempt on one leg, Wembanyama quickly gathered himself and moved toward the basket with ease before recovering his own miss for a putback dunk. If the NBA were a game of chess, Wembanyama would be the queen, the most important player on the board, capable of wreaking havoc from anywhere.

6. What do his teammates say about him?

Former LSU guard Tremont Waters, who was drafted in the second round by the Celtics in 2019, signed last summer with Metro 92 and had high praise of his teammate: "Obviously Vic is a once-in-a-lifetime talent. He's great... He's very humble, he takes pictures after games, he's always smiling and enjoying his journey."

Former Michigan Wolverine Devante Jones, Metro 92's starting point guard, reiterated how humble Wembanyama is to maizenbrew.com in November 2022, adding that he's "easy to play with, just throw the ball to the rim and he'll go get it."

7. What does ESPN's draft expert say?

ESPN's Jonathan Givony listed Wembanyama as No. 1 on his 2023 NBA Draft big board.

In his mock draft following San Antonio's lottery win, Givony wrote, "Wembanyama will be a lock at this spot after widening the game significantly between him and the next tier of prospects with a spectacular season in France."

Givony noted his "length, mobility and instincts" as major attributes leading to his status as a once-in-a-generation talent.

8. Is he really a better pro prospect than LeBron James in 2003?

Former NBA player Richard Jefferson chimed in favor of Wembanyama, saying, "Victor has all of the tools," adding his height as the deciding factor" over the 6-9 James.

"Whether it's Shaquille O'Neal or whoever it is, you always draft the big number one," Jefferson said.

One NBA executive, however, gave the edge to James due to his physicality. "LeBron could bully you and get to the rim," he said, adding, "I don't think Victor's on that level."

9. Following in big footsteps

Wembanyama couldn't have picked a more perfect place to begin his NBA career. San Antonio's last two lottery wins resulted in Hall of Fame big men David Robinson and Tim Duncan spending their entire careers with the Spurs. With coach Gregg Popovich, a Basketball Hall of Famer himself, Wembanyama is in great hands.

10. He'll be right at home in Texas

If Wembanyama gets homesick, all he has to do is take a trip north to Paris, Texas for a reminder of home.
