Jayson Tatum reacts to Marcus Smart's return to Boston

The Boston Celtics rolled past the Memphis Grizzlies 131-91 on Sunday night, but the game result didn't make the biggest headlines. The matchup marked Marcus Smart's return to Boston for the first time since he was traded to the Grizzlies this past offseason, and to say the fans showed the former Celtic love would be an understatement.

Smart rightfully received a tribute video from the team, and it was an incredible scene to watch.

The moment was great, and hearing from Smart's former Celtics teammates was equally enjoyable. There was nothing but praise directed toward the 29-year-old, who missed the game due to a right ring finger injury, and that included from Celtics star Jayson Tatum, who gushed over the impact and love Smart deserves.

"It was an incredible moment. What he meant to the team, what he meant to the organization, what he meant to the city. He was loved. Obviously a fan favorite. It was much-deserved. That was a cool moment to see him get his flowers," Tatum said, per Souichi Terada of Mass Live.

"He was the fan favorite, and everybody knew that," Tatum continued. "The way he played. He played with his heart on his sleeves. Happy for him. Surprised he didn't cry."

Smart spent nine seasons with the Celtics, playing whatever role he needed to on any given night. Although Smart won't be a free agent until 2026, it wouldn't be at all surprising if fans see him in a Celtics jersey at some point down the road in his career.
