Jrue Holiday hits all the right notes following contract extension

Jrue Holiday has signed a four-year, $135 million contract extension with the Boston Celtics. He has opted out of his player option for next season, saving the Celtics almost $35 million in luxury taxes.

When speaking to the media during his post-practice news conference on Thursday, he noted that he and his family love the city of Boston and are happy to commit their future to the team.

“I think since I came here, and kind of the situation how I got here, it’s only been love,” Holiday said. “The city of Boston—not only that, but the organization made it super easy for us to kind of navigate and get through a time that was a bit stressful for us. So, just an appreciation. We love the city. We love this organization, the players in it, and what they stand for, doing our best to try to get another banner...I want to be here,” said Holiday. “I want to win multiple rings, and I’ve heard people say that here plenty of times. So, I’m ready for that.”

By signing an extension with the Celtics, Holiday has helped extend the team's championship window. His presence will ensure there's an elite perimeter defender within the rotation.

He's also proved capable of scaling his production based on team needs. That's why he was a primary offensive piece for the Milwaukee Bucks but has predominantly comprised an off-ball role for the Celtics.

Furthermore, Holiday is adjusting his game. He's among the best corner three-point shooters this season, converting 43 percent on the season, per Cleaning the Glass

Securing Holiday's services for the foreseeable future will allow the Celtics to continue challenging for championships. However, Holiday's willingness to re-sign with the team and his recent comments about the city and the organization will be music to the fan base's ears.

Now, Boston's championship window projects to be open for three or four seasons. They could potentially win two or three rings in that duration.

Holiday was viewed as a significant addition during the summer. Boston has proved how much it values him. And his words have shown how much he appreciates the trust the franchise has shown him throughout his first season with the team.
