'More Minutes!' Cissoko Due for Christmas Gift?
USA TODAY Sports

The San Antonio Spurs have two French rookies, but only Victor Wembanyama has seen a lot of playing time.

The team's second-round pick, Sidy Cissoko, has played in just three games for the Spurs this season, but the Frenchman saw 14 minutes of action in Saturday's loss against the Dallas Mavericks ... his first real action in the NBA.

"I’d like to get him even more minutes," coach Gregg Popovich said after the game. "I think he’s got a lot of potential."

Cissoko has flashed that potential in the G League with the Austin Spurs, averaging 11.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. It's a step up from his numbers last year where he was playing for the G League Ignite.

Cissoko makes his money on the defensive end of the floor, and in order to improve, he needs to start seeing more NBA talent. He gets his fair share of that in the G League, but he'd obviously get far more if he was playing with San Antonio.

With the Spurs sitting at 4-24, they don't have much to lose ... which could mean Cissoko gets more opportunities as the calendar turns to 2024.

Cissoko and the Spurs are back in action tomorrow night against the Utah Jazz. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
