Report: Kings Waive Filip Petrusev, Keeping Final Roster Spot Open
USA TODAY Sports

After Friday night's 124-111 In-Season Tournament victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Sacramento Kings wasted no time to make some roster moves, as Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported  after the game that the team waived first-year F Filip Petrusev.

Petrusev, the 6-11 rookie forward from Gonzaga, was acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers earlier in the season as a moving piece in the blockbuster James Harden deal. However, he didn’t end up lasting long on the 15-man. In his two times on the court for Sacramento, he played a total of 7 minutes, posting a combined three points and one foul.

After his short appearance for the Kings, Wojnarowski details that Petrusev will now look to sign a deal overseas, while Sacramento will maintain their open last roster spot for the ‘foreseeable future'.

It’s easy to see this final spot eventually utilized to lock in two-way guard Keon Ellis to a fully guaranteed deal as his season progresses, but there remains a lot of possibilities for the Kings to look elsewhere. With a championship-caliber roster fully equipped to win an NBA title, a few impactful league vets on the open market might be eyeing the opportunity to join aboard.

For now, though, this Kings team has enough depth on hand to run with one player short. You’ll likely see a move made when a need or the right opportunity arises for head coach Mike Brown and the rest of the staff to add even more talent to this group.
