Warriors Don’t Expect Andre Iguodala To Return Next Season
Darren Yamashita-USA TODAY Sports

The Golden State Warriors don’t expect Andre Iguodala to return next season. The four-time NBA champion is an unrestricted free agent and could retire.

“But my sense is Andre’s probably got some other stuff going,” Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. told NBC Sports Bay Area in a Dubs Talk interview. “But he has my number. The phone is always on. … We’ve communicated some this summer already. We’ll see. We’re not going to close the door on anything. But my guess, and my belief, is that he won’t be back.”

Iguodala appeared in only eight games last season for the Warriors, who lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games. Most people around the NBA believe Iguodala will officially retire, capping off what was a terrific career.

The 39-year-old Iguodala averaged 11.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists with the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, Warriors and Miami Heat. He made one All-Star team and two All-Defensive teams and won the 2014-15 Finals MVP Award.

The Warriors made a big change this summer, trading Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards for Chris Paul. Golden State is expected to start Paul, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green next season.

Paul is looking forward to being on the other side of his rivalry with the Warriors. The future Hall of Famer has been “extremely eager” in his first few meetings with Golden State, according to Kendra Andrews of ESPN. Curry, Thompson and Green will look to help Paul win his first NBA championship.

Warriors owner Joe Lacob wants Curry, Green and Thompson to retire with the franchise. The Dubs have won four NBA championships and played in six Finals in the Curry-Green-Thompson era.

“Certainly, we’d like Steph, Draymond and Klay to retire as Warriors,” Lacob told Madeline Kenney of the Mercury News. “That is my goal, our goal, and I think it’s a good likelihood that’ll happen.”
