49ers become latest team to be cursed by Philadelphia's 'Rocky' statue

The San Francisco 49ers became the latest NFC team to fall victim to Philadelphia's "Rocky" statue playoff "curse" on Sunday.

It was reported last week that some Niners fans threw some San Francisco attire around the iconic Philadelphia tourist attraction.

As if the 49ers weren't dealt a difficult enough hand going on the road against the top-seeded Eagles in Sunday's NFC title game with third-stringer Brock Purdy at quarterback, "Mr. Irrelevant" suffered an elbow injury during the team's first drive.

Purdy's injury led to journeyman Josh Johnson being inserted into the game. Johnson went down with a concussion in the third quarter and Purdy finished out the contest from there.

Stud running back Christian McCaffrey scored the team's only touchdown -- a second-quarter rushing score -- to tie the game at seven before Philadelphia closed with 24 straight points.

Ahead of the Eagles' NFC divisional round game against the New York Giants, gigantic cutouts of Jalen Hurts, Darius Slay, Brandon Graham and DeVonta Smith were placed along different parts of the steps leading up to the Philadelphia Museum of Art (nicknamed the "Rocky" steps), which were made famous in the first "Rocky" film.

While that move had been made in the past, things didn't turn out too well, as the Eagles lost to the New Orleans Saints in a 2014 NFC wild-card game after cutouts of Nick Foles, Brian Westbrook and DeSean Jackson were among the players climbing the steps.

Any potential curse on the "Rocky" steps certainly seems to be gone now, but the "Rocky" statue curse looks to be alive and well.
