Bengals building an explosive offense for 2024 season

The Cincinnati Bengals increased their offensive explosiveness this offseason by adding key pieces in free agency and the NFL Draft.

After drafting Jermaine Burton with the 80th pick in the draft, the Bengals now have multiple deep threats in the receiving room. Burton has top-caliber speed, running a 4.45 40-yard dash at the combine. Gridiron Grading ranked Burton as the most explosive rookie wideout. 39 percent of his catches were for 20 yards or more last season, according to Pro Football Focus

The young wideout joins Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, both elite deep threats. The Bengals also bolstered the tight end room by adding rookie tight ends Erick All and Tanner McLachlan in the draft.

Both players are threats downfield as All averaged 14.2 yards per catch last season, while McLachlan held an 11.7 average. They will join fellow TE Mike Gesicki, who the Bengals added in free agency. Gesicki has 2,861 yards and 20 touchdowns on 260 receptions in six seasons in the NFL.

Cincinnati hopes these weapons will have more time to get open, as it added RT Trent Brown in free agency and rookie OT Amarius Mims in the draft.

Brown was an excellent pass blocker last year, finding himself in one-on-one situations 88.3 percent of the time and allowing pressures just 7.1 percent of the time, which was the second-best among tackles, according to NFL Next Gen stats. Mims is also an elite pass blocker, not allowing a single sack in 372 snaps at Georgia.

Both will join Bengals LT Orlando Brown Jr., who has been one of the better tackles in his six years in the league. These new additions will give Joe Burrow all the weapons he needs next season and allow Cincinnati to field an offense that will scare any defensive coordinator in the league.
