Browns poached another AFC coach to join their staff in Cleveland
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland Browns have filled another open coaching position on their staff and this one comes on the defensive side of the football.

The Browns are hiring Jacques Cesaire to be their next defensive line coach. Cesaire comes to Cleveland by the way of the Houston Texans, that is right the team that just dumped the Browns out of the playoffs a couple of weeks ago.

Cesaire was with the Texans for two seasons and coached current Browns DE Ogbo Okoronkwo in Houston during the 2022 season. That season was a career high in sacks for Okoronkwo with five of them in 17 games. He had 4.5 in 14 games for Cleveland this season as their top-depth pass rusher.

Before joining the Texans, Cesaire got his start in coaching with the Chargers organization as the defensive line coach. He played along the defensive line in San Diego from 2003-2011. After that, he coached there from 2015 to 2019.

Cesaire was the assistant defensive line coach with Buffalo for the next two seasons.

Coming to Cleveland, the 43-year-old will coach a group that is led by Myles Garrett. Za’Darius Smith is set to be a free agent so his future is cloudy, the Browns will have Alex Wright, Isaiah McGuire, and Okoronkwo back with Garrett.

This past season for Houston, they had DE Jonathan Greenard have a career year with 12 sacks and rookie DE Will Anderson Jr. had seven of them. That is work that appears on their coaching resume of Cesaire.

Joining Jim Schwartz’s defense, Cesaire is likely going to be a big fan of how the defensive line gets after it. Such a thing is just another attractive part of the defensive line job in Cleveland.
