Buffalo Bills Get Criticized by Former Chiefs Star for Bringing Poor QB Back for 2024

The Buffalo Bills have it rough when it comes to making the Super Bowl. Despite having one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in Josh Allen, the team just cannot make it past the Kansas City Chiefs.

As they try to find an answer to the Chiefs in the offseason, they brought back Mitch Trubisky to serve as Allen’s backup in the QB room. His experience working with Allen and the Bills organization should see him seamlessly integrate himself into the team.

However, not everyone is happy with how the deal went down when it came to bringing Trubisky back. In fact, one former quarterback went public with his displeasure on how the Bills is handling their offseason so far.

Mitchell Schwartz calls out Buffalo Bills for paying Mitch Trubisky more than vet minimum amid player cuts

Mitchell Schwartz, who won his first and only Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV, said that it doesn’t make sense for the Bills to keep on cutting players for the sake of maximizing their cap space and sign the former Chicago Bears QB for a contract that pays for more than the veteran minimum.

The Spun’s Hunter Hodies wrote about Schwartz’s passionate address on the issue:

“It’s hilarious that Buffalo is cutting all these guys and they’re still over the cap but they’re OK paying Trubisky more than league minimum. Do they not watch football?” Schwartz tweeted.

He then added that he doesn’t get why the Bills added Trubisky because he thinks he’s not good.

“Since reading comprehension is at an all-time low: why do any of you Buffalo fans want Mitch Trubisky on your roster?? The point is they signed someone who is consistently bad for more than they needed to spend. I have no problem spending on backups QBs. Just…pick the right one,” Schwartz added.

A quick look into Trubisky’s stats last season with the Pittsburgh Steelers will justify the criticism Schwartz had for the North Carolina product. Through five games, he threw for 632 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions. He wasn’t able to get a solid QB rating for last season, but his first season with the Steelers saw him with a terrible 58.5 QBR.

It’s fortunate for the Bills Mafia that Mitch Trubisky is only coming in as a backup. However, they won’t be comfortable if the Buffalo Bills would have to rely on him next season.
