Derwin James Unhappy With Defensive Performance Against Lions
USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Chargers dropped another game this past weekend, this time by a score of 41-38 against the upstart Detroit Lions. It was a disappointing game in front of their home fans, and a grim reminder of the tough year that they have seen already.

The Lions found different ways to confuse the Chargers defense, and credit has to be given to their coaching staff. But safety Derwin James Jr. took to heart the way that the Lions went at the Chargers.

“Sunday felt like a new low for this defense. James called the Lions' willingness to go for a fourth down conversion late in the game "disrespectful."

He wasn’t going after the Lions for their decision to go for it, but rather it was him explaining that Detroit believed that the Chargers defense had no chance to stop them. It was a frustrating day all around for this Chargers team, and the defense was the big issue.

The Lions were able to put up 533 yards on the Bolts defense, and it was an embarrassing showing for the team. LA came into the game playing well defensively over the last few games, but Detroit exploited their weaknesses from the opening kickoff.

"It's frustrating as hell," James said. "Because like I say, our job, we want to go out and dominate. We want to go out and execute, and we want to go out and get off the field. So for us not to go out there and get it done, it's all a reflection, and [we] just [need to] look in the mirror."

It was the kind of game where all game film should just be thrown away since nothing valuable would be learned. But the Chargers know that they have to be better going forward, otherwise, their season will be wasted.

They now head to Green Bay for a matchup with the Packers, and they will be trying once again to get their record back to .500. It has been a year of playing catch-up, and Sunday was more evidence of that.
