Detroit Lions Signing CB Tae Hayes
Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions signed cornerback Tae Hayes Friday, according to report from The Detroit Free Press. The signing comes one day after fellow corner Jarren Williams left practice with a leg injury.

Williams was waived with an injury designation on Friday.

In four NFL seasons, Hayes has played in a total of 13 games. He entered the league in 2019, signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent.

The 25-year-old has also played in games for the Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots.

Last season, he appeared in seven games, five in Carolina and two with New England. He totaled six tackles.

Additionally, Hayes suited up for the USFL's Birmingham Stallions in 2022, notching 37 tackles and one interception as the team won the title in that season.

Hayes played collegiately at Appalachian State, where he intercepted a total of nine passes across four seasons. He also posted a total of 138 tackles and eight for loss.

The Lions have been dealing with depth issues at corner with Williams injury as well as starter Emmanuel Moseley beginning the season on the PUP list.

Safety Ifeatu Melifonwu has also missed recent practices with a knee injury. Williams was carted off the field at Thursday's controlled scrimmage.

Detroit is entering an intriguing week, as it will host two sessions of joint practices with the New York Giants beginning Tuesday.

The Lions and Giants will square off in the preseason opener at 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 11.

Detroit will return to practice Saturday before an off-day Sunday.
