Dontari Poe spoke to Jerry Jones before kneeling during national anthem

Dontari Poe has been the only member of the Dallas Cowboys to kneel for the national anthem, and the defensive tackle says that he has received support from everyone he has spoken to in the organization, including owner Jerry Jones.

"I had to talk with Jerry [Jones], had to talk with teammates, coaches to make sure this didn’t take away from our ultimate goal," Poe told USA Today Sports. "And I just told them: I want to do this. If they had a problem with it, we were always open to sit down and talk about it. I want to explain to them what my reasoning was for this."

Jones was once openly against players kneeling, but in light of the nationwide protests in response to the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, it appears Jones has changed his perspective. The Cowboys owner voiced his respect for Poe's choice after he kneeled Week 1.

"I thought our players showed respect to Poe's decision," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. "They did show a sensitivity to our fans as a team but also asked in a very sensitivity to have the help we hope comes. Our team was very real and genuine in the way we approached it."

Jones is likely more concerned about the Cowboys during games than what players do before. They are currently 1-2, and if it wasn't for one of the greatest executions of an onside kick in NFL history, they could easily be 0-3. Dallas will look to get its season back on track Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
