Former 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo returns to NFC West, signs with Rams
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is back in the NFC West after a one-year stint with the Las Vegas Raiders. NFL Media reports that the Los Angeles Rams are signing the veteran passer to a one-year deal.

Garoppolo left the 49ers last year via free agency, signing a three-year, $67.5 million contract with the Raiders. However, he only appeared in seven games while starting six.

The quarterback was suspended for two games due to a violation of the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. This prompted the Raiders to cleanly exit his contract with a release, which officially occurred on Wednesday.

The New England Patriots selected Garoppolo (6-2, 225) out of Eastern Illinois in the second round (No. 62 overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. He completed 110 of 169 attempts (65.1 percent) for 1,205 yards with seven touchdowns and nine interceptions and added 39 rushing yards on 20 carries during his short run in Las Vegas, per Pro Football Reference.

Garoppolo, 32, has completed 67.4 percent of his passes for 15,494 yards with 94 touchdowns and 51 interceptions while adding 264 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns on 185 carries in 81 game appearances (63 starts) during his 10 NFL seasons with the Patriots, 49ers, and Raiders.
