Free-agent OT addresses possibly joining Jets

Free-agent offensive tackle Jason Peters recently made it known that he'd be willing to accept any role from the New York Jets if they were to ask for his services.

On paper, the Jets' offense is stacked with four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers and playmaking weapons like wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running backs Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook. They are in dire need of help along the offensive line, however.

There were rumors that another member of the Green Bay Packers in left tackle David Bakhtiari could be headed to New York, but general manager Brian Gutekunst put that talk to rest last week.

As for Peters, he made it clear recently that he intends to play this year for what would be his 20th season. The nine-time Pro Bowler became the NFL's oldest active player when Tom Brady announced his second retirement on Feb. 1.

The 41-year-old Peters played 11 games and made two starts (including one of each in the playoffs) with the Dallas Cowboys last season. Peters joined Dallas' practice squad in early September 2022 after one season with the Chicago Bears and was on the field for just 235 regular-season snaps last year but played penalty-free football.

The Jets' current projected starting offensive line includes Billy Turner, one-time Pro Bowler Laken Tomlinson, Connor McGovern, Alijah Vera-Tucker and Max Mitchell.

Gang Green closes out their preseason at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday against the New York Giants before kicking off their regular season at 8:15 p.m. ET on Sept. 11 on "Monday Night Football" against the Buffalo Bills.
