Insider addresses job security of Saints HC Dennis Allen

It appears that New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen is not in danger of losing his job coming off Thursday night's 30-22 loss at the Los Angeles Rams that dropped the Saints to 7-8 on the season.

"From my understanding, Dennis Allen is in a good spot," NFL Network league insider Ian Rapoport explained during a Friday appearance on "The Insiders" program, as shared by Chris Rosvoglou of The Spun. "Obviously, if it goes horrific at the end of the year, this is always subject to change. Life is subject to change. But that is where it stands right now."

The 7-7 Tampa Bay Buccaneers lead the Saints in the battle for the NFC South division title. Tampa Bay will host the 8-6 Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday before welcoming the Saints to Raymond James Stadium on Dec. 31.

While Allen holds an overall record of 14-18 with the Saints, Rapoport indicated the coach and quarterback Derek Carr are essentially a package deal. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk noted on Friday morning that the Saints are "already on the hook for $40M" per the terms of the contract Carr signed this past offseason.

"One of the reasons is they're not getting out of where they are anytime soon," Rapoport continued. "You have Derek Carr who is fully guaranteed for next year. Could they move on? I don't know. I don't think they'd want to. It's expensive if they decide to. You have a roster that's getting a little older, getting a little slower and still really expensive."

As of early Friday evening, oddschecker listed the Buccaneers as slight (-135) favorites over the Jaguars. Allen and the Saints will be hoping to receive a Christmas present from Jacksonville ahead of what could be a division-deciding Week 17 showdown in Florida.
