The Pro Football Hall of Fame will induct the class of 2023 on Aug. 5. Here are players from the 2023 Jaguars who could join the immortals in Canton someday: 

Young players who could develop into Hall of Famers

Trevor Lawrence, quarterback: With a young and inexperienced roster, there’s not even one player on the current Jags team who would be close to being considered a fringe Hall of Famer. Lawrence may be the Jags player closest to boasting those kind of credentials.

The 23-year-old quarterback earned his first Pro Bowl nod in 2022 after passing for 4,113 yards and 25 touchdowns while throwing only eight interceptions. He ranked seventh in the NFL in completions (387) and attempts (584), eighth in touchdowns, ninth in passing yards, 10th in passer rating (95.2) and 13th in completion percentage (66.3). He also had the fourth-fewest interceptions among QBs with 400 or more pass attempts.

Aside from his individual numbers, Lawrence elevated those around him. Christian Kirk, who had bounced between a No. 2 and 3 role on the Arizona Cardinals, set career highs in receptions (84) and yards (1,108), finishing as a top-20 receiver in both categories (14th in receptions, 18th in yards).

 Zay Jones, who had never posted more than 56 receptions or 652 yards in a  season before, caught 82 passes for 823 yards. And tight end Evan Engram set career highs in receptions (73) and yards(766) after five lackluster seasons with the New York Giants.

Lawrence is only two seasons into his career, but if he has more seasons like he did this in 2022 (and wins a ring or two along the way), it wouldn’t be surprising to see him in Canton shortly after he retires.

Josh Allen, linebacker: Allen made his first Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2019, finishing fourth in NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year voting after posting a 10.5-sack season in which he totaled 49 pressures, 23 hurries and 14 QB hits. And though he hasn’t topped those 10.5 sacks since that campaign, he has improved as a pure pass rusher and disruptive force in backfields.

Over the past two seasons, Allen has totaled 127 pressures, 82 hurries, 30 QB hits and 14.5 sacks without much help from any other Jags defenders. He is already in the franchise’s top 10 for career sacks (27.5) — only 27.5 away from reaching that record — and he is also 22 tackles for loss away from owning that particular franchise record.

If Allen continues on his upward trajectory and boosts those sack numbers, he could have an outside shot at calling himself a Hall of Famer.
