Jordan Love details how his leadership style has changed
Mark Hoffman / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

The 2023 season will be a testing ground for Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love not just for his on-field abilities but of his leadership as well. While his play on the field will garner most of the headlines, Love’s leadership qualities will also be under the microscope as he starts his opportunity to be a starting quarterback in this league.

“It’s definitely changed,” Love said when asked about how his leadership style has changed, via NFL Network. “I think a lot of it is being able to see some of the older guys, see Aaron, how he leads, and get a feel for how that is. Coming from college, you kind of have your own way of doing things and you get here and see someone else do it. So you kind of grow as a player right there and as a leader.”

This will be Love’s fourth season in the NFL after serving as the backup to Aaron Rodgers for the past three seasons. Rodgers won the NFL MVP award in two of those yards.

Love has played in 10 games over the past two seasons with just one start. That one start came against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9 of the 2021 season on Nov. 7 when Rodgers couldn’t play because of a positive COVID test. Love was 19 of 34 with 190 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception as the Chiefs won 13-7.

It was no doubt a difficult first start for Love. His first start in 2023 will come against Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears in the Windy City.

Eyes across the league will be on Love to see how his tenure as a starting quarterback with the team will go. NFL Hall of Famer and ESPN Monday Night Football analyst Troy Aikman is in the camp that Love will succeed in the role.

“He should be ready, because he has been there as long as he has. He’s had a chance to watch, as I said, a league MVP perform,” Aikman said on NFL Live last week. “You learn a lot from that as well. But I think there’s a bit of an unknown. I think the way the Packers got him signed this year, coming into the season, is really a testament to maybe some uncertainty that they have. This will be a big year for him to prove it.”
