LA All-Pro Bemoans Blown Opportunities In Season's Second Half
USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Chargers frustrating season finally came to an end on Sunday. It was a fitting finale for the Bolts, who lost to the Kansas City Chiefs backups by a score of 13-12.

It was another reminder of how far this team had fallen from just a season ago, but the offseason now brings some hope. However, it wasn't before All-Pro safety Derwin James Jr. decided to reflect on the entire season. He noted that he was "remembering how hard it is to win in this league," per Eric Smith of Chargers.com.

The season as a whole can be remembered for what could have been. This team was supposed to make noise in the AFC, but instead bowed out rather quickly.

They had plenty of injuries, but also plenty of chances. Once again, close games were the aspect of the season that broke this team.

"The Bolts finished with a dozen losses this season, eight of which came by one score or less. And seven of those losses were by a field goal or less."

If the Chargers had gotten a few bounces here and there, maybe they would have been more competitive. The AFC Conference is as open as it has ever been this season, so the Bolts could have taken advantage.

But instead, they are left wondering what could have been. It's the same feeling that has surrounded this Los Angeles team in recent years, and they are hoping it's the last time that they feel it.

"Every step, every mistake, every play that you don't think matters, matters," James said. "Because we were had eight games [where we were] two to three points short. We just have to get better from that."

The coming offseason will be crucial in helping this team grow. The organization will be looking for a new head coach and general manager, and they can't afford to miss on the hires if they want to take that next step forward.
