Meyers' Productive Season Helps Raiders in Offseason

The Las Vegas Raiders enter this offseason with many questions on the offensive side of the ball. The Raiders could start next season with a new starting quarterback, a new starting running back, and multiple additions to their offensive line.

While a few tweaks will be made to their wide receiving corps, the Raiders will return most of the same players from the unit they had this season. Last offseason, the Raiders signed Jakobi Meyers after the veteran wide receiver spent the first five seasons of his career in the National Football League with the New England Patriots.

Meyers would lead the team in receiving yards for three consecutive seasons during his time with the Patriots. That is a fantastic feat regardless of who the player is, but it is even more respectable when Meyers' quarterbacks during his time in New England are considered.

In his first season with the Raiders, Meyers solidified the second wide receiver position next to All-Pro Davante Adams. Meyers would finish the season with 807 receiving yards, 79 receptions, and a 67 percent catch rate in 16 games. He would finish tied with Adams with eight receiving touchdowns.

When the offense was productive, Meyers' presence next to Adams in the Raiders offense was difficult to defend against. That should happen again next season if the Raiders get better play from their quarterback position and an offensive coordinator who can highlight Meyers' abilities.

The Raiders and veteran wide receiver Hunter Renfrow are expected to part ways this season, and Tre Tucker should have a more prominent role within the offense next season. This leads to Meyers potentially being even more productive in his second season with the Raiders, especially if they can add a quality receiver or two to their roster.

The Raiders might not have one of the deepest wide receiver units in the NFL like they did entering last season. Still, with Adams, Meyers, Tucker, and additions made to the unit via the draft and free agency, the presence of Meyers as a dependable second option to Adams allows the Raiders to focus their offseason efforts on other positions.

From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
