New Commanders owner focused on improving fan experience

New Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris has a lot of work to do in cleaning up the mess left by 24 years of Dan Snyder.

One thing Harris wants to focus on is improving the fan experience at FedEx Field, and hopefully, in the future, build a brand new stadium.

Washington football fans had a lot of problems with Snyder's ownership of the team, and the game-day experience at FedEx Field was consistently considered among the worst in the NFL. The stadium has not aged well, transportation to and from the field is lacking, it does not have the amenities of other newer stadiums and home fans were routinely outnumbered by visiting fans in recent years, especially against NFC East rivals.

A consistently bad team plays into a lot of that, but so does a negligent owner.

Harris said on Friday that he is aiming to fix all of that.

From ProFootballTalk:

“We’re going to throw a party every other Sunday,” Harris said. “When you have guests in your house, you treat them well. You don’t have couches that are broken. You don’t have TVs that aren’t working. That’s what we’re focused on right now. As far as the stadium experience long run, we would love to have a stadium where opposing players fear to come and our players love to come and our players love to come and feel welcome. That’s what I experienced at RFK. Whatever happens at the stadium, that’s the kind of stadium experience I want to create.”

Washington fans already seem rejuvenated with Snyder out of the picture, and so far Harris is saying all of the right things to get them fully back on board.

The Snyder era saw the once-proud franchise make the playoffs just six times, winning only two postseason games during his entire tenure as owner. That lack of success, combined with the constant controversy, scandals and lack of care for the fans helped chip away at one of the most loyal fan bases in the league.

Harris is working to build all of that again.
