Raiders can get great depth defensive tackle perfect for the scheme in fifth round of 2024 NFL Draft
Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Even after signing Christian Wilkins, the Las Vegas Raiders could use some help on the defensive tackle side of things for their future. They have some fairly decent veterans there, some that they brought back, but at some point, you have to build the position up to where you aren't just grabbing veterans on one-year deals every year.

Coming into the draft, they will have eight picks to take, one to help bolster the unit. I don't see them taking a defensive tackle with their first two picks, and honestly, I doubt they do with the third pick, either. You never know what will happen in the NFL draft, as it is one of the most unpredictable things in this sport. However, we know some great talent will be available in the later rounds.

That's why I have them going with a defensive tackle in round five, and Leonard Taylor is a really good one who is likely being slept on. Taylor is A to Z Sports' 116th prospect and our 12th defensive tackle on the big board. He has some really good strengths that can translate to the pro level, and his NFL comp is Bilal Nichols, who used to play with the Raiders.

Taylor jolts out of his stance with an explosive first step and has the length to establish first contact and gain early control. He steers and disengages from blocks with a violent push-pull and has the twitch and foot quickness to win with cross-face moves.

Taylor was also playing out of position at Miami, where 59% of snaps were in the A-gap, so he could be better if he is put in the right position in the pros.

I would love for the Raiders to take a shot at him in this draft, especially because he is a raw prospect who can be developed into something good. The Raiders will need help after all of these one-year deals are up on veteran defensive tackles. They took Byron Young last season, but he may not be as good as the team initially thought.

I can see the team taking at least one defensive tackle in this draft. If they decide to do that in the fifth round, I'd love to see the former Miami Hurricanes defender in silver and black.
