Ryan Leaf Reveals What Bolts Should Do With First-Round Pick
USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Chargers have a ton of thinking to do from now till the 2024 NFL Draft. The NFL Draft is still over two months away. However, that isn't stopping people from assuming what the Bolts will do.

At the moment, the Chargers hold the number five pick. We have all speculated on what they should do with their fifth pick or who they should pick. Former Charger quarterback and top draft pick Ryan Leaf knows who he wants with the fifth pick.

Leaf appeared on Bleav in Chargers and detailed who he wants with L.A.'s top pick.

"Yeah I want the offensive linemen. I think you have elite wide receivers already there. I get it. You know, Quentin Johnston did not live up to what could be possible, right? Zay Flowers was drafted after him, had a great year in Baltimore. I still think there's a lot of great football in Quentin Johnston. I really do."

By "the offensive lineman," he means Notre Dame tackle Joe Alt. And you don't blame Leaf for wanting his mountain of a man. At 6'8", 315 pounds, Alt is a force to be reckoned with. His physical stature is intimidating already; he possesses the strength, movement, skills, and play to become the next great offensive tackle in the league.

While the Chargers already have an elite left tackle in Rashawn Slater, Leaf doesn't see the problem in having two of these guys.

Although Alt might not be the sexiest pick, he will help keep Justin Herbert upright. He will protect Herbert for years, as well as protect the backfield. Herbert is the man, and L.A. will need someone like Alt to keep him the man.

This draft class is loaded. The Chargers can't go wrong with their pick. However, the choice is obviously for Leaf.
