TAKEAWAYS: FAU Demolishes Charlotte 38-16 On The Road
© Ron Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

If you're an FAU fan, you probably had a great Friday night watching Tom Herman get the Owls back to .500 with a road solid road win. If you're a Charlotte fan, you probably had a pretty frustrating evening. It was just that kind of game as the Owls marched to a 38-16 win in Jerry Richardson Stadium.

These were the most notable takeaways from the lone G5 Friday game in Week Nine.

LaJohntay Wester Shines On National TV

The FAU junior receiver had himself a fantastic night, only to the surprise of those who haven't paid much attention to the Palmetto native this season. He caught ten balls for a season-high 149 yards with two touchdowns. He's averaging over 10 yards per catch in 2023.

Wester helped his draft stock performing at a high level in a prime time slot. When it comes time for Wester to make his case for the next level, expect a few clips from this game to get played, namely this one.

Offensive Efficiency Helps FAU

Charlotte had the ball for 38:29 in this game. FAU only had the ball for 21:31. Despite that, the Owls did an impressive job of scoring quickly and often.

FAU's longest drive lasted 4:43 and ended in a field goal. FAU had five scoring drives of 3:30 or less.

Charlotte had three drives of five minutes or longer. Those three drives led to a total of three points for the 49ers.

Charlotte's Discipline Issues

It's genuinely hard to hone in on one area of this game that really did Charlotte in...because there were several. However, the penalties definitely stick out.

The 49ers were penalized a total of 12 times for 104 yards on the evening.

At one point, Charlotte players were literally fighting each other on the sideline.

Sure, it's year one for Biff Poggi. However, this game was another piece of evidence that this man might be in over his head.
