Texans will have major effect on many other teams' draft strategies
Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

It seems that many teams around the NFL are wondering what the Houston Texans will do with their selection in the first round of the draft because it will have a major effect on their organizations' plans.

The Texans enter the 2023 NFL Draft as one of the worst teams in the league and in need of filling many holes on their roster. However, in today’s game quarterback is by far the most important spot on the field, and the organization is in need of a long-term fix at the position.

Houston has the second overall pick in next week’s event, and with two signal-caller prospects viewed as top-five-level picks, logic would dictate that the Texans will use their selection on either Bryce Young or CJ Stroud.

However, as we draw closer to the 2023 NFL Draft, the Texans taking a QB is no longer a forgone conclusion, and the possibility of taking a top prospect on defense is very possible. It has now made many QB-needy teams around the league that missed out on trading up for the Chicago Bears’ previous pick at No. 1 wonder if the Texans’ selection could be up for grabs. “Many” organizations are waiting with bated breath to see what the Texans do.

On Thursday, ESPN NFL insider Dianna Russini reported on how what the Texans want to do with their top pick next week will dictate what happens afterward.

“The NFL Draft drama next week starts with Houston. MANY teams are asking around right now trying to find out what the Texans are going to do. If they don’t go QB and Arizona trades out, there’s a team that can get the 2nd best QB in this draft. Texans controlling so many boards.”

After Young and Stroud, the next best QB options in the 2023 NFL Draft are seen by many as risky prospects in the top 20.
