The Buffalo Bills Get Key Player Back For Playoff Push
Jamie Germano/Democrat and Chronicle / USA TODAY NETWORK

In an encouraging piece of news, the Buffalo Bills will receive a bolstering presence to their secondary. As the team comes off of a third straight win against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Bills are hoping to make it to four as they prepare to face the New England Patriots at home.

Buffalo Bills Secondary Player Rejoins

Kaiir Elam has been removed from injured reserve (IR) and will be a part of the active roster starting today. The move allows Kaiir Elam to be available for the upcoming Sunday matchup.

Having been placed on IR, a decision had to be made in order for him to compete again this season. After his 21 days were set to expire to make it back from his designation, the Buffalo Bills had until Wednesday afternoon to make a choice before losing him to IR for the rest of the year.

After a good rookie season, Kaiir Elam is someone who has struggled to make the rotation on defense this year.

Buffalo Bills Secondary Situation

Since losing Tre’Davious White to a torn Achilles, the Buffalo Bills secondary has had multiple players step up to fill the void.  Christian Benford, Dane Jackson, and Josh Norman have seen a larger role this year instead of Kaiir Elam.

To date he has only seen 157 snaps on defense, while only seeing the field as a special teams player 8 times. His season did not start the way he was hoping, as an earlier injury during the preseason proved to be a season starting setback that has not fully allowed him to get it going this year.

According to him, he tore a ligament in his foot during the third preseason game. And while surgery would have been a viable option, he elected to battle through, hoping to help a cornerback room that was not necessarily at full capacity.

Kaiir Elam shared the following regarding his season amid his injury concern earlier in the year:

(People aren’t) in the building that’s the thing. So I really don’t put value into what they’re saying because they don’t know. All I can do is control when I get my opportunity, and what I do out there, that’s all I can do.

This news appears to be a great sign that he is closer to being healthy enough to have an impact than not. Opting to not stay on injured reserve, it is a sign that the Buffalo Bills see his potential to still make an impact this season.

With the Buffalo Bills slated to not only make the playoffs, this is a team that is starting to play their best football now. Amidst a season that has had notable changes, they are hoping that Kaiir Elam will be able to come back into rookie form in the remaining two regular season games, and post season run.

A rookie season that saw him post 41 total tackles, two interceptions, and four passes defended.

I just have to go out and make plays like I know I can and get healthy.
