Taylor, a former sixth-round pick, spent the first four seasons of his professional career with the Baltimore Ravens. He was the primary backup to quarterback Joe Flacco and appeared in three games while completing only one pass as a rookie

In his second season, Taylor appeared in seven games. Taylor received the most playing time in his career as he replaced Joe Flacco in their Week 17 matchup. He threw for 149 yards and one interception. He did rush for his first career touchdown in a losing effort. Taylor won a Super Bowl ring later that season when the Ravens beat the San Franciso 49ers.

Taylor had to perform better during the preseason in his third year to keep his backup job and he did just that. During the preseason, he threw for 263 yards, four touchdown passes and two interceptions. For the season, he only attempted five passes.

In 2015, Taylor signed a three-year deal worth $3.35 million with the Buffalo Bills. Taylor won the starting job after a strong preseason, beating out EJ Manuel and Matt Cassell. In his first year as a starter, Taylor played in 14 games, completing 242 passes for 3,035 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. 

Taylor’s numbers fell a bit during his second season with the Bills, throwing for 17 touchdowns and six interceptions. He added 580 yards on the ground along with six touchdowns. The Bills finished the season at 7-9 and missed the playoffs.

Taylor led the Bills to the playoffs in his final year with the team and threw for 2,799 yards, with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions. In the Wild Card round, Taylor threw for 149 yards and one interception before leaving the game with a concussion.

Taylor was traded to the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 off-season for a third-round draft pick. He was named the starter before being benched for first-overall draft pick Baker Mayfield four weeks into the season. He finished the season with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Before joining the New York Giants, Taylor spent time with the Los Angeles Chargers and the Houston Texans. He saw minimal action for those two teams starting only seven games.

He saw the most playing time in the 2023 season but lost his job temporarily to Tommy DeVito due to injury. For the season, he finished with 1341 passing yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.
