The San Jose Sharks have reportedly acquired forward Anthony Duclair from the Florida Panthers, according to The Athletic‘s Shayna Goldman and Daily Faceoff‘s Frank Seravalli.

Duclair, 27, collected nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 20 games with the Panthers during the 2022–23 regular season. He added four goals and 11 points in 20 additional games with Florida in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

According to Goldman, depth forward Steven Lorentz appears to be part of the return going to Florida in the deal. The 27-year-old forward collected 10 goals and 19 points in 80 games with the Sharks in 2022–23. (Update: the Panthers also received a 2025 fifth-round draft pick from the Sharks in the trade).

Duclair has one year left on his deal at a $3M cap hit. He’s eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in 2023. Lorentz also has one year remaining on his contract, which is worth $1.05M per season.

The New York Rangers originally selected Duclair in the third round (No. 80 overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft. The 5-foot-11winger made his NHL debut with the Rangers in the 2014–15 season before being traded to the Arizona Coyotes the following summer.

After a three-year stint in Arizona, Duclair spent time with the Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Ottawa Senators before signing with the Panthers in 2020. He set new career highs with 31 goals and 58 points in 74 games with the Panthers in the 2021–22 regular season.

In 490 games over parts of nine NHL regular seasons with the Rangers, Coyotes, Blackhawks, Blue Jackets, Senators, and Panthers, Duclair has racked up 122 goals and 261 points. He’s added 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 34 career playoff contests.

Lorentz figures to be a depth piece on a Panthers team that made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Final in 2023. The Sharks originally acquired him from the Carolina Hurricanes in 2022 as part of the deal which sent Brent Burns to Raleigh. Lorentz has scored 20 goals and 40 points in 192 career NHL games.

Duclair will now battle for ice time on a Sharks team that also features Tomas Hertl, Logan Couture, Kevin Labanc, Alexander Barabanov, Oskar Lindblom, and William Eklund at the forward position.
