Barcelona star Sergio Aguero retires due to heart condition

Barcelona forward Sergio Aguero announced he is officially retiring due to a heart condition. He is just 33 years old.

Aguero made the announcement Wednesday with club president Joan Laporta by his side.

"This conference is to announce I have decided to stop playing professional football. It is a very difficult moment," he said, via ESPN.

Aguero, who previously played for Atletico Madrid and Manchester City, had not taken the pitch since October when he had to leave a match against Alaves because he had chest pains. It was later revealed the striker suffers from cardiac arrhythmia.

There was speculation over the last few days that Aguero would be retiring to take care of his health.

Aguero retires as City's record goal-scorer with 260 goals in 390 appearances. The club was one of many to pay tribute to Aguero upon his announcement.
