Eric Dier made a winning start to life at Bayern Munich by making his debut in a 1-0 victory over Union Berlin on Wednesday.

Dier played 45 minutes at center-back alongside Matthijs de Ligt after being subbed on for Dayot Upamecano at half-time.

Harry Kane played the full 90 for Bayern, who fielded two English players simultaneously for the first time in the club's 123-year history.

The score was tied at 0-0 when Dier came on but Bayern took the lead just 30 seconds later.

Raphael Guerreiro fired Bayern in front moments after Kane had rattled the crossbar.

Kane then had the ball in the net himself 10 minutes later but was denied his 27th Bayern goal by an offside call following a VAR review.

Union Berlin managerĀ Nenad Bjelica was sent off later in the second half after hitting Bayern winger Leroy Sane by the side of the pitch.

Dier touched the ball 48 times on Wednesday, making two clearances and one interception.

The former Tottenham defender completed 90.9% of his 44 attempted passes.

Wednesday's victory saw Bayern move to within four points of Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
