Mario Balotelli believes that AC Milan will beat Inter Milan in the derby, but not come back in the Serie A title race.

The former Nerazzurri and Rossoneri striker gave his thoughts to the Controcalcio Twitch stream, via FCInterNews.

Inter and Milan will meet in the second derby of the season in three weeks’ time.

The two city rivals will only face each other on two occasions this season.

That is very different than the past couple campaigns.

During the 2021-22 season, Inter and Milan faced on four occasions, between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

And then last time around, the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri went head-to-head five times – twice in the league, once in the Supercoppa Italiana, and then in a two-legged Champions League semifinal tie.

Balotelli: AC Milan Will Win Derby, But Inter Will Win Serie A Title

This time around, Inter and Milan will more than likely go into the derby as the top two teams in the Serie A table.

But that does not mean that it is probable that the derby will be a match with major title implications.

Far from it, Inter have a fourteen-point gap at the top of the table.

If the Nerazzurri can avoid a calamitous dropoff in form in the three matches between now and the derby, then they could even clinch the title against their city rivals.

For his part, though, former Inter and Milan striker Balotelli doesn’t think that will happen.

The Italian expects Milan to win. The Rossoneri have lost in each of the last five derby meetings. But they will surely be aiming to snap that streak, and delay their city rivals’ title celebrations.

Balotelli said that “In my opinion, Milan will win the derby.”

“I won a Premier League title at the last second,” said the former Manchester City striker. “So we have to play for it until the end, because anything is possible.”

“But I think it would be tough to see Inter not winning this Scudetto.”

As far as who he considers the top player in Serie A at the moment, Balotelli named an Inter player. “I’d put Lautaro ahead of Leao and Osimhen,” the former Italian international said.
