Sergio Aguero is convinced that Lionel Messi made the correct decision by signing for Inter Miami this summer.

Messi had also been linked with a possible return to Barcelona, as well as a mega-money move to Saudi Arabia with Al-Hilal.

But the Argentina captain - after spending two seasons in France with Paris Saint-Germain - instead opted to join the team that was dead last in Major League Soccer.

Messi made his Miami debut on July 21 and has since led a revolution at DRV PNK Stadium, assisted by former Barcelona co-stars Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

Miami have not lost in 10 matches since Messi's first appearance, having gone 11 games without a win prior to his debut.

During those 10 matches, Messi has scored 11 goals, produced three assists and led Miami to a first ever trophy in the shape of the Leagues Cup.

A second piece of silverware could follow later this month after Messi shone in a semi-final victory over FC Cincinnati in the U.S. Open Cup last week.

Messi has settled in remarkably well on the pitch but also off it. He and his family are said to be delighted by the welcome they have received in Miami - one of their favorite cities.

Speaking to FanNation Futbol this week, Aguero said: "Leo has found playing for Inter Miami to be a well-thought-out decision. One month later, it's evident that what he is doing is perfect for this phase of his career.

"You can tell when you see him that he is happy and doing what he enjoys doing most. We should all be able to enjoy that, in my opinion.

"I hope he continues to live in the now and does an even better job of winning over his supporters' devotion. Leo is deserving of it; he has given much and will continue to do so.

"Upon his team's Leagues Cup victory, I noticed several social media posts with the subject line: 'Seeing Leo happy makes me happy.' Isn't that true for every one of us? We can always discuss the future, but for now, let's just enjoy the moment and let Messi be Messi."

Aguero and Messi have been close friends for almost two decades.

Messi is the godfather to Aguero's son Benjamin.

Aguero retired from football in December 2021 on the advice of doctors after being diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia.

He will be best remembered as a player for his 10 years at Manchester City, during which time he won 15 trophies and set a club record by scoring 260 goals.

Aguero was a keen spectator last season as City won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

City have already lifted the UEFA Super Cup this season and will also compete in the Club World Cup and EFL Cup, as well as attempting to retain the three titles won in the previous campaign.

When asked how many trophies City might end up with this season, Aguero told FanNation Futbol: "They should aim for as many as possible, ideally.

"City possesses an extremely solid team, a well-defined strategy, while the core players remain, complemented by some very strong additions.

"On the other hand, the competition has strengthened and become more determined. Each of these competitions presents unique dynamics. Even the tiniest factors can result in losing a Community Shield, as we've seen.

"However, as I mentioned earlier, a team of City's caliber must secure titles every season. The previous year was marked by an exceptional streak and I can only hope that they can catch lightning in a bottle once more.

"While acknowledging the rarity of achieving a treble, we should cherish our accomplishments and eagerly anticipate what lies ahead."

Aguero was speaking to FanNation Futbol as part of his role as a brand ambassador for Stake.com.
