Inter Milan great Beppe Bergomi admits Italy escaped a penalty call against Ukraine last night.

The 0-0 draw was enough for Italy to qualify for Euro2024, though things could've been different if Bryan Cristante had been judged to have fouled Ukraine winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Bergomi told Sky Italia: "The touch is there on Mudryk. The referee never called a foul on the player in the entire match, also due to the way he fell. He certainly thought so, but I thought: if it had happened to us, I don't know how we would have reacted.

"Then if I think back to the past, to the 2002 World Cup, I say it fits. But if the roles were reversed, what would we have said?

"The contact is there, little to add."
