Inter have been bargaining with Henrikh Mkhitaryan in recent months, but the agreement hasn’t arrived yet, even though he’s their most urgent extension since his contract is up at the of the campaign.

Per Calciomercato, the Nerazzurri don’t want to lose him. They are trying to come to terms on a two-year deal at the current figures. A caveat puts pressure on the team. The Decreto Crescita, which allows sides to save on taxes, will stop being effective from January 2024. Therefore, the new contracts of foreigners who moved to Italy will be a lot more onerous gross-wise.

Therefore, Inter would like to shake hands with Mkhitaryan and his agent Rafaela Pimenta before the end of the year to avoid unnecessary disbursements.

CEO Giuseppe Marotta was quizzed about whether the situation was related to their chase of Piotr Zielinski by DAZN (via OneFootball).

“Mkhitaryan is a great professional who proved to have great qualities. We shouldn’t make comparisons with anybody. He’s high value.”

Our Take on Inter and Mkhitaryan

Even though you can never have enough good players, it’d be overkill to have both him and Piotr Zielinski, especially with Davide Frattesi still unable to obtain a regular role. However, the pursuit of the Pole might come down to the wire. Its ending is far from certain despite the increasingly loud noise about his departure. They might want to be sure and retain their own midfielder first.
