There has been good news on the injury front for Manchester City. Pep Guardiola confirmed during his pre-game press conference that John Stones and Mateo Kovacic are back in full training with the squad.

Speaking before City’s game on Sunday against Tottenham Guardiola confirmed that Stones and Kovacic had resumed training. Pep also added that Matheus Nunes isn’t far away from returning. When asked about the trio’s fitness he said: “Mateo is already back, I think. He trained well yes, but Matheus is still maybe days or weeks away.” Guardiola also added when asked about Stones: “Much better, close to coming back. He’ll be with us, I don’t know if he’ll play but he’ll be there.”

With Stones and Kovacic returning to the squad Manchester City will almost have a full squad available for Sunday’s game against Tottenham. With Matheus Nunes beginning recovery, a return isn’t far away for the Portuguese international.

The return of John Stones and Mateo Kovacic will add reinforcements to the City squad. City’s squad was hit by injuries over the previous international break. The majority of the players affected by injury have either played since or are back in training. Ederson, Nathan Ake and Erling Haaland all recovered from their injury issues to play in Manchester City’s last two games. It leaves only Kevin De Bruyne and Matheus Nunes who are unavailable for the visit of Tottenham to the Etihad.

Manchester City will play Tottenham on Sunday in Premier League action. The game will be a clash between second and fifth on the league table. Stones and Kovacic both being available will be a boost for the champions ahead of the visit of Ange Postecoglu’s side.
