Before Jorginho left Chelsea, Mateo Kovacic looked to be certainly on his way out of Chelsea to another club in the summer transfer window, but things have changed.

Jorginho's departure means Chelsea have one less positive influence around the club to help the youth, and Kovacic is one of the only players left in the squad that can gill that void.

Chelsea are set to keep Kovacic, and a new contract is being prepared for the Croatian.

According to Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports , Chelsea have completely changed their stance around Mateo Kovacic, and there is now a huge chance of him staying at the club next season.

Speaking on the situation, Ben Jacobs had this to say, “Chelsea have kind of changed their position [on Mateo Kovacic] because they’ve got rid of Jorginho and they realised that Kovacic has got leadership."

“Their preference would be to try and agree something if they can, that keeps him at the football club."

It is within Chelsea's best interest now to begin working on a new deal for Kovacic, and there have already begun doing so.

Kovacic could of course still leave the club in a similar fashion to Mason Mount if an agreement cannot be reached, but there is a confidence of Chelsea tying the midfielder down to a new deal.

Chelsea value experience and it will be vital in the coming months for their rebuild. Mateo Kovacic is one of the most experienced around.
