Mike Maignan is facing an uncertain future due to a relatively short-term contract, a challenging negotiation to renew it, declining performances, and a subpar Milan season. The goalkeeper is said to be obsessed with winning, and not being able to do so takes a toll on him, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The shot-stopper hasn’t made multiple big blunders but has also not been as good as in the past. The Rossoneri have allowed the most goals out of any top-four Serie A team. While their defensive phase is more to blame for that, he hasn’t been superb.

Milan will try to reel Maignan in by improving the squad around him. Their directors insist that they don’t plan any major sales. The French star’s valuation has taken a tumble and is about €60M now. Cashing in on Rafael Leao or Theo Hernandez would be more profitable, but both are happy to stay.

The Rossoneri would reignite their efforts to extend his contract, which is up in 2026, if he didn’t leave. He makes €3.2M, a lot less than other cornerstones. The ace just suffered another injury, a thigh strain, that will cost him a pair of matches.

Our Take on Milan and Maignan

The root of the problem is most likely simply his renewal. The interesting tidbit is that the officials won’t try to get it done before the summer. That means that the next window will be the last one to get full value unless they obviously come to terms down the line.
