Mario Balotelli is unlikely to move to Salernitana, but sources close to the club confirm they had held talks with the Italy international.

Salernitana hold talks to sign Italian striker Balotelli in the January transfer window, club sources have told TuttoSalernitana.

“There was more than a chat; he was an idea for Salernitana, but in the end, nothing will happen,” said the sources who are described as ‘very influential’ within the club. According to the report, they are the same people who pushed for Filippo Inzaghi’s appointment as the new Salernitana coach this past October.

According to the report, a new contact between Balotelli’s entourage and Salernitana was made on Tuesday. The striker had reportedly agreed to sign a contract until the end of the season, but with a higher salary than the one offered by Salernitana, so the two parties did not shake hands.

Balotelli’s agent, Enzo Raiola, said last week that his client could have returned to Serie A in January, although he only had a 5% chance to return to Italy’s top flight, where he had already played with Inter, Milan and Brescia.
