South Korea offer job to Cannavaro – report

World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro has reportedly received an offer to take over the South Korea national team.

South Korea failed to impress at the recent Asian Cup, falling to Jordan 2-0 in the semi-finals after a fairly lacklustre campaign under Jurgen Klinsmann, who was heavily criticised for his commitment to the role. Amidst much fan pressure, the German coach was eventually dismissed by the FA.

Cannavaro still hasn’t managed to find his footing in the coaching world; after a fairly decent three-year spell in China, the former defender took a three-year break before returning for an unconvincing 17-game spell in charge of Benevento, a role he left in February of last year.

As reported by Il Mattino via TMW, the South Korean FA have contacted Cannavaro to offer him the head coach role following the sacking of Klinsmann, interested in bringing the former defender back to Asia.

The Italian coach will consider the offer over the next few weeks, making a decision before he leaves for a tour of the United States in late March where he’ll be involved in Italy’s two friendlies against Venezuela on March 21 and Ecuador on March 24.

Cannavaro would’ve accepted a role in the Italy national team but for the time being that door is not open, so the South Korea offer is intriguing.
